SHPE Advocates for Dreamers

November 2, 2018

In a January letter to Congressman Will Hurd (R-Tex.) and Congressman Pete Aguilar (D-Cal.), CEO Raquel Tamez wrote “On behalf of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and our 10,000 members nationwide, I write in support of the Uniting and Securing America Act (USA Act) which we believe is a strong bipartisan solution that will allow our “DREAMers” to remain in the United States.”

Tamez goes on to say, “As an organization focused on STEM, we can attest to the fact that thousands of the immigrant students you seek to protect in your legislation are some of the brightest minds in our nation and seeking STEM careers.”

This is just the start of a long-term plan to advocate on behalf of the SHPE membership and to be your voice in Washington, DC. We hope you all will write similar letters to your representatives to show your support as well. As always, we are better together!
