MemberSHPE Types and Benefits

Junior Member ($5)

Junior membership is open to all high school and middle school students interested in pursuing a career path and/or college education in STEM related majors. If your school does not have a chapter or if you choose not to be affiliated with your middle/high school chapter on your campus, you will be considered an “At-Large Member” classified by your geographical region. Members “At-Large” receive the same benefits as those who belong to a chapter.

Benefits:

  • Participation in your local Noche De Ciencias;
  • Opportunities for scholarships to high School graduating seniors;
  • Access to networking with SHPE members and mentors for career guidance.

Undergraduate Member ($10)

Undergraduate Member ($10) Student membership is open to STEM related majors. All others are invited to become associate members. Graduate students have the option to join SHPE either as a student or Professional Chapter. If you choose not to be affiliated with a chapter on your campus, you will be considered an “At-Large Member,” classified by your geographical region. Members “At-Large” receive the same benefits as those who belong to a chapter.

An Undergraduate Membership is a great way to start building your professional network, personal brand, and prepare for a successful career in STEM. A SHPE Undergraduate membership offers excellence and value! Your membership includes:

  • Discounted registration to SHPE National, Regional, and Local events;
  • Access to over $300,000 in scholarships annually;
  • Exclusive access to SHPE’s Career Center for internship and full-time employment searches and career planning;
  • Networking and social opportunities with leading industry professionals, fellow students, corporate representative, and SHPE leaders;

Graduate Member ($15)

Student membership is open to STEM related majors. All others are invited to become associate members. Graduate students have the option to join SHPE either with a Student or Professional Chapter or Region At Large. If you choose not to be affiliated with a Student Chapter on your campus or a Professional Chapter in your area, you will be considered an “At-Large Member,” classified by your geographical region. Members “At-Large” receive the same benefits as those who belong to a chapter.

Benefits:

Graduate membership offers all of the same benefits as the Undergraduate, but with an emphasis on the Graduate student. In addition, a Graduate membership has additional opportunities to explore not only a career in industry, but also offers an opportunity to explore a career in academia.

Recent Graduate Member (Complimentary)

For persons who qualify for regular membership and have graduated less than six (6) months ago. To be eligible for this membership option, the individual must have held prior student membership as an Undergraduate or Graduate. This person will receive a one year free membership and is entitled to all mentioned above.

Benefits:

Recent Graduate membership benefits include all the benefits of a SHPE Professional membership.

Professional Member ($65)

A Professional member shall be a person who at a minimum holds an engineer-in-training certificate or a bachelor’s degree in any STEM related field. Six years of experience as an engineer or in a mathematically based science field or engineering educator may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. Professional members shall be entitled to cast one vote in elections of officers and all business that the Board of Directors refers to the membership. Professional members may hold a Board position.

Associate Member ($55)

An Associate Member shall be a person who believes and supports the purpose of this corporation. He/she shall not be entitled to nominate, vote nor hold a position on the Board. Associated members shall be extended all privileges of a Professional member less those exempted above.

Benefits:

Associate membership benefits include all the benefits of a SHPE Professional membership with the exception that he/she shall not be entitled to nominate, vote, nor hold a position on the Board.

Lifetime Professional Member ($1,000) & Lifetime Associate Member ($800)

A Lifetime Professional member shall be a person who at a minimum holds an engineer-in-training certificate or a bachelor’s degree in any discipline in a STEM related field. Six years of experience as an engineer or in a mathematically based science or technical field or engineering educator may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree. Membership dues for lifetime members will be waived in perpetuity.

A Lifetime Associate member does not qualify for Lifetime Professional status but supports and encourages the members, purpose, and mission of SHPE. Membership dues for lifetime members will be waived in perpetuity.

Benefits:

Today, over 600 lifetime members proudly wear the lifetime member pin and represent SHPE wherever they go. Lifetime membership is extended to Professional and Associate Members alike who support the principles and goals of SHPE and who are willing to pay the one-time only membership cost. This category of membership is shared by an elite group of individuals who have made a Lifetime Commitment to support SHPE’s mission and goals.

SHPE Lifetime membership benefits include all the benefits of a SHPE Professional membership, plus:

  • Receive a 10% discount to all national events including NILA and the National Convention;
  • Exclusive SHPE Lifetime member lapel pin;
  • Invitation only access to the Lifetime Member Reception at SHPE National Convention;
  • Receive additional tickets to invite other potential lifetime members to this exclusive reception.

Joint membership with SWE further promotes an inclusive environment with SHPE and SWE. The goals of this important partnership program are to improve networking opportunities and expand professional development programs for Hispanic women engineers.
