Jose Zamora Orellana

Regional Graduate Representative | Northeastern University | Mathematics PhD Student

Why did you run for this position?

In the context of PhD students throughout the country, Latinx people aren’t far from being the 1% of a 1%. Not only do we need to make up more of the 1% of the United States population with a graduate degree, every single one awarded to someone Latinx is another powerful pull for the diversity of leadership we need in every industry. I want to start on the regional level, which includes my hometown and city of birth, to get the experience to project that positive influence to any community I am a part of. Within the scale of the Latinx community, I have a strong passion to be that influence for the neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ subcommunities.
